Another ingenious American transplant has landed in Abu Dhabi, Bareburger. It was created roughly 15 years ago in Brooklyn, when organic and sustainable food choices were still outside the mainstream. From grilling grass-fed burgers on a single grill in a tiny space in New York City, to over 15 locations today, they have certainly proved their product. They pride themselves on serving clean, vibrant, real fast food. The menu is vast with modern, interesting variations in every area from burgers and fries, to salads and sandwiches. And of course there are a few sweet treats as well...like the banana fosters milk shake.
Some of the dishes have a very American feel, like the Macho Fries. They are essentially nacho fries. Plump hot fries with a drizzle of tangy buttermilk sauce, pickled jalapenos, melted gouda, and guacamole. They are decadent and made for splurging, but surprisingly they are not overly greasy or heavy. The guacamole is fresh with large chunks of avocado. The onion rings should also not be missed. Thick slices of sweet onion with light, crispy breading.
The burger range goes out of the box including an offering of camel, and simple to decadent with the option to make a complete custom burger. The beef patty is thick and I would recommend getting the crumbled blue cheese as an addition. Both the brioche and the multi grain buns are soft and buttery and they claim the meat is all sustainably sourced and organic.
There are also loads of vegetarian options. There are four different salads with ingredients like quinoa, kale, freekah and avocado. The Guapo Chop salad was filled was lots of crispy romaine, topped with aged cheddar, guacamole, jalapenos and an addicting avocado basil dressing. Definitely a salad with some heft. There are two different vegi-"burgers". One with mushroom and caramelized onions, and another that comes wrapped in greens with sweet potatoes and quinoa.
The desserts, while also keep with the theme of organic and sustainable, but are still not all that healthy, thankfully. The bananas foster shake is a winner. A thick creamy banana shake is poured into a frosted glass that is drizzled in caramel. The ice cream "sammie" is also a favorite, with creamy ice cream sandwiched between two soft chewy cookies. Bareburger is a welcome addition here in Abu Dhabi, with its organic and sustainable focus, you don't feel quite so bad about scarfing down another burger and fries.
