Hidden in the very serious DIFC (Dubai International Finance Center) are some very fun restaurants. Most of them thrive during the week, but on weekends when most the office workers clear out, the neighborhood seems quiet.... and like a hidden jewel in the rough. A jewel because the DIFC is awash with some of my favorite high-end eateries from Zuma to Robertos to the Four Seasons. AND there are a few places like Dusty's that don't quite have the price tag of those others, and still attract an energetic crowd with flair for a little fun and good food. Dusty's is cozy, and it feels like it should be deep in Manhattan's underground financial district. Well-dressed patrons sit in the dim bar, nodding their heads to the uber-cool DJ and laughing with friends. The atmosphere is urban industrial with class. The servers reflect the relaxed coolness, each dressed in a crisp white button down shirt with red suspenders, each making it slightly their own style.
On Fridays, Dusty's does a brunch which allows diners to taste a variety of dishes all served directly to the table. Otherwise, they have a lunch and dinner menu and a substantial bar snacks menu, with great items like Mini Wagyu Burgers, hot crispy Parmesan Truffle Fries (with just a waft of truffle), and super tender fried Rock Shrimp. The cocktails and liquors are numerous with some beer including, Brooklyn Brewery, and a few proseccos (including a rose) and wines to round out the offering.
The main a la carte menu has a good variety of appetizers, salads, mains and sides. And even though those fried shrimp are delicious, there are some interesting healthy options too like the quinoa salad with fennel and hazelnuts, and the tender miso black cod served with fluffy long grain jasmine rice.
The desserts seem as though they are an afterthought, but are still executed surprisingly well. The Molten Chocolate Cake and the French Toast are like Dubai itself, decadently addicting. At first it might seem too overwhelming, but after one taste...well, you end up finishing the plate. And even the accompanying vanilla ice cream is creamy and flavorful.
So, for a meal or drink with an upbeat urban flair, Dusty's is the place. They have lots of promos from Ladies Night to Business Lunch specials, and even an outdoor terrace! And the DJ was actually one of the best I have heard at a restaurant in a while. The music volume was just right to still have a conversation at your table, and more than once I found myself saying "Oooo I love this song!".
