Weekend Eating in Memphis

This past weekend my much needed "spring break" to Memphis was a quick little foodie tour stop in this historic southern city.  We were able to relax, eat some great food, and have a lot of fun with friends and family.
Kaiya was especially happy to have a full house.

First up, Gus's Fried Chicken (World Famous)

Hot, crispy, juicy and delicious. You will be chewing on the bones.

The next morning we headed off to meet some close friends at the very quaint Eclectic Cafe.  They make their own donuts. pastries, pies and bread.

B ordered the crispy sweet potato hash browns, warm buttermilk biscuits with homemade strawberry jam, and fluffy scrambled eggs.

I had the house-made yogurt and granola.  I have had a lot of granola and yogurt, and this was one of the best ever.  The yogurt was thick and rich but not heavy and filling.  The granola was toasty and nutty, made with almonds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, oats....and a few other tasty ingredients.

And of course a cup of bold  french roast coffee with soymilk.

We all cleaned our plates as we talked and laughed,

and played with baby Miles, who is now 1 1/2 years old...and soon to be a big brother of twin sisters!

After our goodbyes, we stopped at Muddy's Bake Shop for a few treats for the road.

Muddy's makes some of the best cupcakes in the nation, beating out lots of places that I have tried in NYC.

Their cupcakes are always moist, fluffy and topped with just a perfect amount of frosting (not too much).

Since it was only a quick weekend away, it was not nearly long enough to taste all of what Memphis has to offer, so this post will have to continue on my next visit.  It was however, definitely a sunny and tasty change of pace from the CLE.  Beale Street, we'll be back soon!
