Popcorn Tea

Want an easy way to improve your health and feel better?  We are always looking for the quick fix, right?  A few months ago we were given a gift of green tea.  I have been a fan of most green teas, but only because of  all of the possible health benefits involved in drinking green tea, such as:
  • increases metabolism and energy
  • promotes healthier teeth and skin
  • fights the aging process
  • prevents wrinkles
  • fights cancerous cells and other heart diseases
  • enhances mental function
  • boosts the immune system
However, this gift of green tea was very different.  I actually looked forward to drinking it, and now it is safe to say that I love it!  We were given Genmai Cha with Matcha in a bulk bag of loose leaf.
Genmai cha is green tea with roasted brown rice. It is sometimes also referred to as "popcorn tea" since you will see a few grains of the rice that popped during the roasting process and look just like tiny pieces of popcorn. The Matcha is green tea powder.  The flavor is of fresh greenery (green tea) and roasted nuttiness (the brown rice).  It seems to be a perfect drink at all times of the day and night.

I make it simply in my french press pot (one of my favorite kitchen tools).  I pour in about 2 tablespoons of tea, pour boiling hot water over it, and let it steep for about 4 minutes.
If you like milk or sugar in your tea, it also works here, but I just drink it plain since the flavor is so perfect.

Enjoy!
