Waterlemon {Al Bateen Wharf}

Waterlemon, (That is Water Lemon) is an eco-friendly cafe, situated on the newly built Al-Bateen Yacht Harbor.  During the heat of the summer months, things can get more than a bit quiet out there with the large outdoor eating areas, but hidden just inside their large glass windows, Waterlemon is cooking up some healthy satisfying dishes in generous portion.  They have an extensive menu including breakfast, pizzas/pastas, hamburgers, a few mains, hearty salads and of course some decadent desserts.  

One of the standouts is the daily (unlimited) salad bar for only 59AED   It is packed with proteins like chicken, tuna and hard boiled eggs, and complemented with crunchy fresh breads and lots of specialties like asparagus, baby corn, and fried pita chips.  If you prefer to order from the menu, the goat cheese and beetroot salad comes with house-made beetroot chips, and a filling centerpiece of warm, grilled goat cheese over rustic brown bread.  Raw walnuts and pine nuts add texture to the cherry tomatoes and mixed greens.  The Quinoa Salad is made slightly sweet from  being tossed with caramelized veg, raisins, pine nuts and...passion fruit.  If you prefer a meaty starter, the chicken strips are juicy, moist and perfectly crispy all at the same time.  No need for the side of cocktail sauce.

One of the trademark dishes at Waterlemon is the thin black pizza dough.  No it is not more of the omnipresent charcoal trend, but instead simply the effect of dried roasted vegetables...and it actually makes for a very tasty crust. I would choose the black crust over the regular every time. 

To end the meal (or maybe as a meal on its own), there is an array of desserts.  Everything is overly decadent and will be enticing for the  most terrible of sweet tooths.  Their most popular dessert is the Chocolate Bomb, and for good reason. It is large dome of thin white chocolate that is melted with your waiter's pour of a hot thick caramel sauce. As the dome and caramel melt together, a super moist densely chocolate brownie and a large scoop of vanilla ice cream are revealed.  

Waterlemon could easily get lost amid the serious cafe competition in Abu Dhabi. While the food and service is great, the location is really what sets it apart.  When the heat subsides, head out to the harbor, dream of owning a yacht and dig into that Chocolate Bomb.
